Phipps Farms, Inc., a family owned and operated business, is located just north of Chrisman, IL.  The Phipps family has been in the farming industry for over 150 years.  In 1932, Henry Phipps Sr. moved his family of seven children to the Chrisman area from south of Charleston, IL (Farmington).  The family has owned land in Coles County since James Polk was President.  Henry J Phipps took over the farm after returning from World War II.  After the death of Henry Phipps Sr. in 1967, Henry J Phipps bought out his brothers and sisters interest in the 200 acre farm seen above.  Steve Phipps joined in the farming operation in 1969 after graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Agricultural Education.  In 1977 Henry J's wife Virginia Phipps inherited 260 acres from her family, which dated back over 140 years to Johnston Ross , her great grandfather. Since that time the family has collectively aquired another 1350 acres bringing the total owned to roughly 1800 acres in Edgar and Vermilion Counties.  We also retained 30 acres of the original Phipps farm in Coles County.  In 1995 the farm was incorporated (an Illinois C corporation) in order to bring Steve's sons, Corey and Chris, into the operation.  Corey is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Agricultural Mechanization, and Chris is also a graduate from the U of I with a degree in Technical Systems Management.  Corey's wife Sara is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Agronomy, and Chris's wife Shelby is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Agriculture.  Currently, we farm approximately 5300 acres.  We specialize in production of seed beans, seed corn, IP corn, high amylose corn, white corn, and some high oil corn.  We have contracted specialty crops with Growmark Seed Division, Syngenta Seeds, National Starch and Chemical Company, Cargill/Dry Corn Ingredients (formerly ICM Grain), ADM/Tabor Grain, Azteca Milling, Inc, Clarkson Grain Company, and Monsanto Seed Production.
